This is the first study of its kind to investigate exercise performance and central regulation in a group of elite Paralympic athletes with cerebral palsy, as most research to date has focused on sedentary children.

The South African Women in Science Awards (WISA) are presented annually by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) recognising emerging and distinguished women researchers and promoting women in the field of Science. This year, WISA was held at the Hilton hotel, Sandton, Johannesburg on 16th August. The theme of this year’s awards was “The scourge of violence against women: What is the role of science and research?” which is in line with the 2013 United Nations theme for women.
Award Winning Poster
This poster won The Best Poster award at ICPAPH (5th International Conference for Physical Activity and Public Health) held in Rio, Brazil in April, and Best Poster for the University of Cape Town Postgraduate Research Week (Health Science category).
The presenter and author of the poster is Clare Bartels, a PhD candidate at ESSM.
